Awesome app for behavior modification in an autism classroom

First, I would like to thank you for developing 2 great apps for the iPod Touch and iPhone. I am an elementary special education teacher. I work with young children who have moderate to severe autism. I am very excited as I will be launching a 1:1 iTouch project with my class this fall! I plan to incorporate both your apps into the project. iRewards is actually an app I have been hoping someone would develop. Several of my students rely on a token reinforcement system to help keep their behaviors under control. The best thing about iRewards is how users are able to cutsomize the behaviors, criteria for reinforcement, and the picture. The ability to make such customizations helps individualize the tool for each student. There are, however, a few improvements I would like to see in future updates. First, could users be offered a choice of "stickers" instead of the star? Some the "stickers" my students use are smiley faces, checkmarks, favorite cartoon/TV characters, etc. Second, would it be possible to program a verbal praise when the reward is earned? Also, perhaps most importantly, could users choose the video clip that plays once the reward is earned? I know the current one of cat playing piano would not be too reinforcing for some of our students. Thank you again for all the hard work you have put into developing such helpful apps! Sincerely, Jeremy Brown Special Education Teacher Montgomery County Public Schools Programs for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Good idea needs some work

The app crashes a lot particularly when trying to add a photo.

Solid product

Valuable title worth the money. Really fine job!

I like it but with one fix I will love it!

Please make an option to list by goal not by reward!

Great app for many people!!!!

This is a bargain of an app for those in need of a way to provide a visual reward schedule on the cool iTouch or iPhone! So easy to customize and use every single day! Every parent should get this, but especially those with special needs children! ( I am a speech/language pathologist and use it in my clinic!)

Making a difference in our lives!

I cant say enough about iRewards! It is absolutely the best thing Ive found for my son (and my own sanity)! His behavior issues, lack of self control, his "learned" shirking of responsibility, inability to understand that his choices = consequences, as well as his processing and memory problems are some of the biggest issues we face all day, every day, in our home. However, iRewards is quickly beginning to help us with these issues! One of the greatest benefits for us while using iRewards is that it is helping my son control his behavior when we are out in public, running errands, etc. For example, if he sees something in a store that he wants and cannot have, all I have to do is pull up the app on the phone, show him the stars he needs to earn (and keep) and he sees the picture of the reward right there below the starts and immediately he either calms down, or at the very least I can see him trying desperately to control himself. Before we found iRewards, he would go straight into a total meltdown. What is even better is that we are focusing on positive reinforcement and he feels SO PROUD when he earns a reward! (I do take away stars for serious issues but I try to focus on the positive). It is building his self esteem and teaching him that he CAN do things he didnt think he could. Anyone who has a child with a disability such as autism (especially at this age), would probably agree that is is SO difficult to find a tool, teaching method, etc., that actually works for more than a day or two, or at all! Ive become so disappointed over the years with failed methods or tools that may work for some but just didnt work for Ty and now, the fact that I can see how using iRewards with my son is actually helping HIM learn, change and control himself, is a huge victory for us. One of the best features is the ability to completely customize the app for yourself. So no matter what age or skill level someone is at, you can choose the behavior or action you want, how many stars will be needed to earn it and use any picture you want to show the reward! It is great that you can go in and change one if it needs tweaking too! While I use this mainly for my son with autism, Ive also started to use it with my (neurotypical) teenager just so I can keep track of whether or not he has done his chores before letting him go out, etc. It truly can be adapted to be used by anyone! If you get creative, I would imagine that you could even use it to motivate a spouse (lol). Seriously though, I am so grateful for this app and cannot wait to share it with other parents that I know. I will say that the most difficult part for me was being creative and coming up with behaviors/actions that I wanted Ty to learn and choosing how many times (stars) he needs to do something to earn a reward. Also, choosing a reward that is fitting and interesting to him at his age is challenging for me because everything he wants costs money. I highly recommend this app for both children with autism, ASD, ADHD, etc. If at first you think it looks like it was created for only younger children, dont let that stop you from trying it! There is absolutely nothing like it out there for persons with a disability such as this. Kudos to the creators of this app! I would love to talk to others who use it to share ideas for rewards at different age levels, etc.

Both effective and rewarding!!

I use this application daily within my clinical treatment environment!! It has been EXTREMELY effective in helping children stay on task while providing clear feedback. Its very easy to use and can be customized to the likes of each child individually. I also find that children like that they can interact with it by placing the smiley face, check mark, star, etc. It also has a component that helps some to transition to the next activity since they know they are done with the current task when the cat plays the piano. I would highly recommend this application to all parents, not just parents of children with special needs. GREAT APP for a GREAT PRICE!

Better than a paper chart

iReward is a great, easy-to-use reinforcement chart. Its a time saver because its so much easier to create than a paper chart with symbols, lamination, and velcro. I recently created a paper chart, and the whole time I was thinking, "I wish an iPhone or iPod touch was available for this student to use iReward." Whenever a device is available, I highly recommend iReward for charting and reinforcing appropriate student behaviors.

Great for home or clinic

What a great tool for use while working with special needs children so they can see the progress toward a goal while they are completing their work (ie time on the swing once math is finished). Can also be used at home for your own children (if you make your bed every day for 7 days we get to have family game night). Very simple and easy to customize to whatever needs you have.

Mom

Love it! My kids love seeing there tasks turn into rewards. Have not used it with my husband yet... Lol. That could get interesting! Great pictoral and the kids really love it.

rewards

A miracle for motivating. This app works!

Behavior training made easy...and fun too!

This family development team has produced a slick app that is very easy for kids (and adults!) of all ages to use. iReward lets you set goals and visually track progress toward those goals. It replaces the paper chart our daughter uses to track her daily and weekly chores.

Great application!

I just started using Ireward and I have had great success! One of my sons therapists introduced me to it and I am most grateful. Our son is easly distracted and Irewards helps him stay on task, so much so that his teachers at school just purchased it!

Great!

This app is wonderful. I am a teacher and also a mother to two boys. My youngest has mild developmental delay, and is benefitting so much from the app. He loves technology, so using the iPhone to reward his behaviors has been a great tool. I have shared the app with colleagues, who are equally impresed with the features as well as the low price. Thank you!

iReward

I was very pleased with this app! It is easy to use & individualize for my childs goals. She has Aspergers so use of a token economy such as this is very helpful. Not to say it could not be used for any child, because it can. My daughter loves setting a goal, picking out the reward, & placing a star each time she completes a task on the list. It is also helpful as it is portable; imagine carrying a sticker chart everywhere you went (no fun). My only suggestion for future apps is increasing the goal to > 10. Then, bigger goals/rewards could be implemented. Overall, more than worth the price of $1.99! You would easily spend more than that on sticker charts & you can use it repeatedly.

Great App!

I cant believe how rewarding this app is! Just inputting the information makes you stop and think how the balance of work and reward is pleasurable and satisfying. Wish: Sure would like to be able to rearrange the behaviors in the order I plan to have them done.... Thank you both!

Cant track rewards for multiple kids

I was little disappointed to find that I cant track rewards for multiple kids. I wish I could get my money back.

Simple, but effective

I used this for the first time last night with my 19 year old autistic son. After many years of using various token economy systems he immediately grasped its intention. Although the concept is very simple he found it rewarding enough to complete requests he normally balks at uncomplainingly. He was more interactive with me as he counted down the remaining stars with each completed task. And he knew all along he was working for 1 hour of computer time so there were less protests when his time was up on the computer. Im getting him an iPad for Christmas so Im testing out apps now and this one definitely is going to be used. About the only thing Id like to see added is the ability to customize the vocal praise by recording your own. Now if Apple will add time limits to their parental controls on the iPad Ill be a happy camper. LOL.
